Brooklyn Academy High School Electronic Devices Policy
A. All electronic devices, including, but not limited to, cell phones, computing devices, portable music and entertainment systems, apple watches, etc. are subject to the restrictions below.
1. Electronic devices will be collected by the school when students enter the school building and stored in a designated location until the end of the school day, according to the following procedures:
3. Electronic devices may not be turned on or used during the administration of any school quiz, test or examination. Any student found turning on or using a device during an exam will have the exam invalidated.
4. Electronic devices may not be used during school fire drills or other emergency preparedness exercises.
5. Electronic devices may not be turned on or used during school trips, without the explicit approval of the teacher.
6. Electronic devices may not be used in locker rooms or bathrooms.
B. Confiscation and return of electronic devices
All electronic devices found in the possession of a student in the school without the express authorization of the school and staff will result in:
• 1st Confiscation - The item will be returned to the students at end of school day.
• 2nd, 3rd and 4th confiscation - The item will be returned to parent following a school conference.
• 5th Confiscation - Revocation of privilege to bring item to school.
C. Discipline
Any students who use electronic devices, including, but not limited to, cell phones, computing devices, portable music and entertainment systems, apple watches, etc. in violation of any provision of the DOE’s Discipline Code, the school’s policy, Chancellor Regulation A-413, and/or the DOE’s Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (“ISUSP”) will be subject to discipline in accordance with the guidance interventions and disciplinary responses set forth in the Discipline Code.

- When going through scanning, students must place all electronic devices in their backpacks or scanning trays, and the backpacks and trays must be sent through the x-ray machines
- All students entering Brooklyn Academy must check all electronic devices with school staff member upon entry to the building
- Devices will be held in a safe, locked space throughout the school day.
- Students will not have access to devices during the school day.
- At dismissal, students will meet with a designated member of school staff for device distribution, which will occur at different areas of the school, based on last name.
